Black Ice grandIce Lake, in the San Juan National Forest, is rarely photographed in black in white. It's teal waters and lush surroundings lend themselves to vibrant photos, but on this overcast morning I was struck the moody feel of an approaching storm and decided that I wanted a different look. A lone willow sits in the Madison Valley below Sphinx Mountain

but when he did I was treated to one of the best scenes I've photographed
